This Week at the Capitol: Homeless Day on the Hill

Week Nine of the 2013 Legislative Session

This week we participated in Homeless Day on the Hill, organized by the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless. We began with a briefing for the 450 advocates and supporters that attended from all over the State.

We met with our lawmakers and urged them to support the Homes for All ask of $50 million for housing and services.

Timing for the event was perfect–we attended a Health and Human Services committee meeting. HF 937 was discussed and the bill was laid over for inclusion in the Health and Human Services omnibus bill. The room was packed (actually, overflowing!) and there was great testimony.

Earlier this week, Wilder Research released preliminary numbers from the Homeless Survey. We attended a press conference on the first data from the survey as well. You can read more about the survey results here. More detailed numbers will be available in April.

It was a great day for advocates and Homes for All supporters. There will be more lobby days to come and we are excited to continue to bring our message to lawmakers.

Did you attend Homeless Day on the Hill? What was the most meaningful part of the day for you?
